Clash DJ Mix – Syer B

Erstwhile Roll Deep OG supplies a heavyweight selection...

Erstwhile Roll Deep OG Syer B has re-emerged at an opportune time; eagle eyed fans may have spotted him releasing a slew of gem-packed ‘Archive’ compilations on his Bandcamp page. The Dagenham producer and MC, known also as Syer Barz, developed a reputation as one of the hardest spitters on pirate radio back in the day. While production wise, he slots somewhere in between the aggy, adrenalised element of grime and the more melodic, out-there branch of the genre that producers have been toying with recently.

If you’ve been tuning into J-Cush’s recent Rinse sets or any of the Boxed shows, you’ll have probably heard Syer's new wheezing instrumental ‘Mushrooms’, which has just been released alongside five others on Cush’s Lit City Trax and is a must-have for fans of both the original sound and new, spidering mutations of grime.

Each track on his Clash mix features Syer in some form, whether it’s on the mic over Danny Weed and Wiley productions or his own instrumentals, and takes us all the way back to the sound of mid noughties London tower blocks.
