Parisian producer Rodriguez Jr. offers up a solid, sharp and infectious house workout for the latest exclusive Clash DJ mix.
Whether through his part in Laurent Garnier-approved French electro act The Youngsters or simply his own considerable back catalogue, Rodriguez Jr. (aka Olivier Mateau) has – in the space of a few short years – become regarded as something of a modern master when it comes to a certain strain of house music. His blending of stripped-back classic-style grooves with headier tech-house trips has won him a lot of fans and placed him as a regular on influential Berlin label mobile, as well as providing him with the opportunity to DJ at Berlin club Watergate, Spanish festival Sónar, Amsterdam’s ADE event and numerous other clubs and festivals around the globe.
Mateau’s Clash mix is a rolling, rhythmic selection that traverses contemporary four-four from the underground, revivalist house vibes and a touch of dark tech-house, alongside a few failsafe gems that never fail to raise a smile and nod the head – there’s never a bad time to hear Kerri Chandler’s ‘Bar A Thym’. As well US don Chandler, other selections on Mateau’s mix come from refined tech-house masters Tiefschwarz, Berlin producer &ME and rising Mexican deep house duo 4004 and Sebastien Vorhaus, as well as a track from Mateau himself.
