Christmas Questions: The Maccabees

Orlando Weeks shares...

With Christmas approaching fast, we asked a few of our favourite musicians of 2009 for their tips, memories and stories from Christmas past.

Today Orlando Weeks of The Maccabees, who’s ‘Wall Of Arms’ made it to 36 in our Top 40 albums of 2009 (read their entry on the list HERE), shares his memories of bygone Christmases and plans for this year:

What was your favourite Christmas present as a child?
Anything as long as I thought it was better than whatever my brothers got.

Which gift did you want but never get?
A dog, my brother got one though.

How did you learn the truth about Santa Claus?
I cant remember. I reckon most of those icons crumble around the same time, the easter bunny, tooth fairy etc When one goes they all go.

What was your favourite Christmas?
The first xmas I can remember when it snowed in London, I think I was about 8.

Did you take part in Christmas plays at school?
I was in the nativity at junior school, I think I was a king or an barnyard animal. For ages I remembered being the devil in it, but I realised that was costume from something else around the same time.

What is your favourite Christmas song?
The Power of Love – Franky Goes to Hollywood

What would be your ideal Christmas party (venue, house band etc)?
New York, Nat King Cole and the Pogues.

What have you asked Santa for this year?
Nothing really. The older I get I find myself asking for things that I would never want to spend my own money on, like a hoover, so I’ve decided it’s best to just not ask.

Do you have any post Christmas hangover / detox tips?
None, just suck it up, enjoy it, wallow in it, everyone is in the same boat.

What is your favourite part of the Christmas meal?
Boxing day bubble and squeak.

Brussel Sprouts – food heaven or food hell?
Food heaven!

Where are you spending Christmas this year?
At home with my family.

What is your favourite Christmas film?
The Great Escape

Do you watch the Queen’s speech?
No, it’s a bit dry usually.
