Best Of 2010 Albums – Kings Of Leon

15. Come Around Sundown

Having scaled the heights of these charts twice before, it’s highly disappointing to see the Followill clan slip down so dramatically from their thrones. ‘Come Around Sundown’ split opinions in Clash HQ – its songs lacked the immediacy of previous eff orts, and the dynamics throughout seemed too identical to really make an impact. However, there’s a depth to this album that needs explored – its brilliance becomes more apparent in a live setting, which means all those catching the Kings’ December shows may well discover a new level to this misunderstood gem. The highlights are obvious – ‘Radioactive’, ‘Pyro’, ‘Mary’, ‘Back Down South’ – and are better than you think.

Best Bit: Caleb’s yell of “Go boy!” amid cousin Matthew’s face-melting guitar solo in ‘Mary’.
