Despite the telling title, it would take more than a few intense stares to work out the inspiration behind Antipodium’s latest collection: competitive pole dancing (in regional convention centres).
Glance again though and you’ll realise that that black fabric boasts not a barbed wire but a girl on a pole, one of several custom prints from textile designer Alexis Gane. It’s there too – that hint of the dancer’s world – in the glitz, in the sheer and in the high slits that define the longer skirts.
Inspired by Philip-Lorca di Corcia’s ‘Lucky 13’ photo series, creative director Daniel Mcilwraith and co have gone as far to adopt names like ‘Flex’, ‘Qualified’ and ‘Victory’ for pieces from the collection (a shirt, pullover and jacket respectively), while naturally the statement grey coat takes the ‘Lucky 13’ title.
