Album Stream: 1000 Names – ‘Migration Pads’

Bulgarian duo continue to intrigue...

With a name half-inched from an Anish Kapoor sculpture, it's clear from the off that Bulgarian duo 1000 Names aren't run-of-the-mill production pairing.

Carefully piecing together their catalogue, 1000 Names are now set to debut their fourth album on Kelpe's Drut Recordings. It's a curious return.

The duo have a magpie like thirst for new ideas, which steers them from left field house to glitchy electronics, instrumental hip hop to what sounds like (to these ears) like jazz flourishes.

Lush, fluorescent textures are shattered by footwork rhythms, spacious arrangements are shot through with bizarre, off kilter ideas.

Out on November 10th, 'Migration Pads' is another example of 1000 Names' stunning imagination. Secluded from the whirlwind of Western Europe, the pair have achieved the (relative) isolation needed to truly harness their own ideas.
