Vivienne Westwood & Juergen Teller Explore the Faded Glamour of the English Coast for AW24/25

Team Westwood ventures to Margate for its enchantingly gritty AW24/25 collection.

Vivienne Westwood has unveiled the latest stage of its AW24/25 campaign, expanding Dame Westwood’s legacy with the high-octane glamour of its latest collection against the ethereal grittiness of the quintessentially English seaside town of Margate.

Almost two years after the passing of the brand’s namesake, the house of Vivienne Westwood continues to channel its founders’ revolutionary vision through creative director Andreas Kronthaler and longtime friend and photographer Juergen Teller. This campaign exemplifies the raw aesthetic of Vivienne Westwood with punk and historical references mixed with abundant accessorising, heritage tailoring and majestic glamour.

The team ventured to Margate for this instalment of its AW24/25 campaign, setting the theatrical looks against grey skies and the brutalist backdrop of the southeastern coastal town. Kronthaler amps up the drama and historical edge of the collection with slashed fabrics set over thigh-high boots, and heavily layered colourful Lochlan and Scotland tartan paired with leopard sneakers. An almost preppy striped suit features a romantic B&B setting with a soft pink wall and white satin bedding. The most dramatic looks like a puffy golden gown and near-naked belted bag look are saved for the rocky caveside walls.

“I went to Margate for the first time in the late 90s” muses Andreas Kronthaler. “It seemed to me the most quintessential English seaside place therefore I always wanted to do a campaign shoot there. Of course, it has changed a lot since then. It’s a place I feel comfortable and welcome, I find the people extremely sweet and friendly. It is very picturesque and there is a certain light there which must have to do with the seaside air: It’s perfect for photographs. We shot in three locations, the Margate caves, the car park of Dreamland, and the Nayland Rock hotel.”
