The brands hook up for a new capsule collection.

Once fiercely the reserve of the skater community, Vans today are as commonplace on Kingsland Road as they are on the Southbank; a subcultural hero swept up by the mainstream.

Which is no bad thing if you like variation (presumably most people).

Enter then & Other Stories, H&M sister label, previous Lykke Li collaborator and now Vans partner. As the latest brand to tap into Vans’ distinctive aesthetic, & Other Stories this season takes on two cult classics: the Slip-On and the Old Skool.

Notes designer Nicole Wilson, “It’s been super interesting to work with Vans’ classics styles and interpret them in an & Other Stories way, clashing the history of skater shoes with a more feminine approach.”

“The & Other Stories’ girl is close to the Vans’ girl,” adds Vans’ Footwear Product Manager Camille Thin, “she uses her personal style as expression of herself, and sneakers have regained their place in her wardrobe.”

Using the & Other Stories SS15 mainline collection as a starting point, the three piece capsule range boasts a light shade of beige as well as a contemporary black and white print, each modelled above by the industry’s longest serving supermodel, Daphne Selfe (context: Daphne started out in 1949, 17 years before the Van Doren Rubber Company opened for business).
