Vans presents a new campaign and fuses classic and contemporary styles through the art of storytelling and timeless designs. The ‘Old Meets Knu’ campaign transcends time and celebrates the legacy of the Vans ‘Old Skool’ sneakers from 1977 through to the ‘Knu Skool’ shoe of 1997.
The Old Skool was the third skate shoe released by Vans back in 1977 and soon became a staple on the counterculture scene of Southern California. The shoe pioneered the legendary Sidestripe, evolving and adapting to new generations with colour and fabric changes over the years. In 1997 a new iteration of the Old Skool was born as the Knu Skool shoe with a fresh paint job and ‘90s aesthetic detailing like a puffy tongue and 3D sidestripe. The shoes each offer a glimpse at a very distinct moment in time and culture, encapsulating the energy of the time and delivering a raw look at the distinct audience Vans has maintained over the years.
A visual campaign captured by Ed Templeton and styled by Veneda Carter pays tribute to timeless design and the art of storytelling. The project features skateboarding legend Tony Alva and team rider Breanna Geering as visual representations of the Old Skool and Knu Skool pieces, and both athletes radiate a youthful energy and irreverent spirit through the cross-generational campaign.
The Vans Knu Skool and the Old Skool Classic are available now at Vans retail locations and at vans.co.uk
