UGG has merged forces with Gallery Dept. to re-imagine its classic silhouettes, celebrating one-of-a-kind, DIY aesthetics.
Founded in 1978 by an Australian surfer, UGG has established itself as a go-to label across the globe, spotted on everyone from icons to local creatives, your neighbour’s pug (yes, UGG has its own Dog Bootie) and beyond. Versatility, alongside sustainability and social inclusion, is at the core of UGG’s mission statement, an element that has kickstarted the first collaboration of 2024.
As the story goes, founder, designer and artist Josué Thomas found that his UGG boots has become unintentionally adorned in splashes of paint, a result of years spent working away in his art studio. Inspired by the functionality of his beloved footwear, Thomas has now re-created the essence of his craft through the UGG Gallery Dept. Tasman Slipper and Classic Boot. Incorporating hand-painted splatter designs with multi-coloured gems, the collection brings a rebellious energy to both models, available in Chestnut Suede and Black Leather. Renown for his use of re-purposed vintage garments, the collaboration is made up of regenerative materials, asserting an environmentally conscious approach throughout his work.
Speaking on the collection, Josué Thomas expands:
“UGG boots are easily one of my favourite pairs of shoes. I do everything in them, and they are so comfortable. The Classic Boot is such a perfect depiction of form and function. I love working in them, and I love that you can live life in them as well. You can always tell what I’ve been doing by looking at my feet.”
Available to purchase online and at select stores, UGG continues to reinvent itself with its first collaboration of the year.
