Since the brand was founded in 1985, Tommy Hilfiger has built a legacy at the epicentre of American culture with feet in fashion, music, art, and sports. Back in 1996 when the brand was just 11 years old, Tommy Hilfiger launched an ‘International Games’ capsule collection to celebrate that the Summer Olympics were to be held in Atlanta, Georgia that year. Today, almost 30 years after the Georgia Summy Olympics, Tommy Hilfiger is relaunching the collection under his Tommy Jeans label.
“The sporting calendar sets the cultural pulse for the year – and 2024’s shaping up to be amazing,” said Tommy Hilfiger. “We’re building on our legacy of working with pioneers in sport and reimagining timeless American icons through an archival lens.”
For the campaign, Hilfiger has invited star athletes to form his own ‘Team Tommy’, including All-Pro NFL wide receiver Stefon Diggs, stand-out college basketball guard Deja Kelly, star of the all-Japan skateboarding association Aori Nishimura and Formula 1™ driver and current member of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team Mick Schumacher. Photographer Juanita Richards captures the group in pieces from the new sport-inspired collection, each look showcasing a modernised take on key pieces from the Hilfiger archive in a collegiate setting, cementing the brand’s preppy roots within American youth culture.
Hilfiger presents a 41-piece capsule collection spanning menswear, womenswear and gender-neutral styles. Set in a rich colour palette, the collection combines Hilfiger’s signature red, white and blue with yellow, black and green from a “union of continents in the sporting world”, the brand tells us. Key pieces include a striped rugby shirt, a vintage-inspired varsity jacket, a modernised version of the Chicago sailing jacket inspired by the layout of a vintage regatta windbreaker, classic basketball jerseys and a men’s mesh top with ‘TOMMY 85’ across the front.
The Tommy Jeans International Games collection is available today at tommy.com and in Tommy Hilfiger stores around the world.
