Tekla & Artek celebrate Aino Aalto’s 130th Birthday with a Thoughtful Bedding Collection

The collection will debut at Copenhagen's 3daysofdesign festival.

To commemorate celebrated architect and designer Aino Aalto’s 130th birthday, Tekla and Artek have partnered to design a special bedding collection. The limited edition collaboration reintroduces Aalto’s famous Kirsikankukka pattern, which was first designed in the 1930s after the Japanese ambassador to Finland gifted Aalto a silk fabric with a cherry blossom motif, or “kirsikankukka” in Finnish. The pattern consists of a delicate yet distinct floral design that complements Tekla’s soft modernist design sensibilities.

Tekla continues to craft the highest quality bedding with its famous high-quality percale cotton, woven with a 200 thread count and lightly stonewashed for a crisp, soft finish. This limited edition collection features a scaled version of the floral Kirsikankukka motif printed on Tekla’s signature Winter White, Island Blue and Mallow Pink colourways. This collaboration also marks the first time Tekla will release children’s bedding. Inspired by a baby bed made by Aino Aalto, the children’s bedding will feature the same graphic print in the same colourways, further expanding both brands’ commitment to sleek, timeless design throughout the home.

The collection will be introduced during Copenhagen’s 3daysofdesign festival between 12th-14th June, debuting with an opening event and exhibition at the Tekla Copenhagen store alongside exhibitions at Artek’s Helsinki and Tokyo stores. An accompanying campaign captured by Norweigan photographer Ola Rindal captures the sunlit warmth of the collection. The soft, worn-in textures of Tekla’s percale bedding married against Aalto’s elegant and almost ditsy floral pattern further elevate the traditional modernism we’ve come to expect from both brands.

Artek/Tekla will be available to purchase from 12th June exclusively at teklafabrics.com, Tekla Copenhagen and at Artek Helsinki and Tokyo.
