To mark the opening of the ‘Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty’ exhibition at the V&A (here), the brand this week releases a capsule collection of special edition silk scarves.
Perhaps one of the most accessible pieces produced by Lee McQueen before his death in 2010, the label’s skull printed scarf was adopted practically as a uniform by Kate Moss et al, and subsequently ripped off by every other chain on the high street.
McQueen has continued to draw on the piece’s appeal under creative director Sarah Burton; in 2013 the brand collaborated with Damien Hirst on a series of nature inspired designs.
For the new commemorative collection five designs feature, each bearing an iconic piece from the designer’s archive, hence the Shalom Harlow modelled No. 13 dress from SS99 and the armadillo shoes from SS10’s 'Plato’s Atlantis' collection both appear.
Just 100 of each design has been produced, ensuring these genuinely fulfil the special edition tag.
