“The NEWGEN initiative has an unrivalled reputation as the scheme which has seen countless designers through to London Fashion Week and success in selling globally,” offers Sarah Mower, the BFC Ambassador for Emerging Talent and Chair of the NEWGEN selection.
“The panel and I are always stunned to be able to meet designers and discover what they have to say at an early stage,” she continues, ahead of this morning’s SS16 announcement that will see AW15’s strong contingent continue to develop courtesy of Topshop and the British Fashion Council.
Ashley Williams, 1205 and Ryan Lo then, will this September return to the catwalk, while Molly Goddard makes her second presentation appointment and Faustine Steinmetz, Claire Barrow and Danielle Romeril likewise return for presentations; Marta Jakubowski and Sadie Williams will host exhibitions in the new London Fashion Week venue, Brewer Street Car Park.
“Everyone who wants a window on the future shouldn’t be missing what our NEWGEN cohort has to say this season – they are as individualistic as London designers are, but are also characterised by their collective pure enjoyment of clothes, innovation, artistry and a playful sense of fun,” confirms Mower.
The announcement didn’t end there however, as the American Vogue Contributing Editor urged for next season’s line up to undergo a reshuffle: “My only criticism is the dearth of accessory designers applying to NEWGEN. We want to see more! So please take this is a call-out for next season’s talent!”
