And so the positive trend for girl gangs continues with a new launch, courtesy of Amber Atherton’s My Flash Trash label.
Timed to co-inside with the jewellery line’s arrival in Topshop’s Oxford Circus flagship, the #GIRLPOWER #CHARMGANG collective sees Atherton recruit 20 of London’s most influential ladies – amongst them WAH’s Sharmadean Reid, journalist Bertie Brandes, make-up artist Isamaya Ffrench and Pandora Lennard from Anti-Agency – to curate a selection of charm bracelets.
“Whilst it’s a pretty diverse group of people I’ve met through life (either personally or through My Flash Trash), they all have creative talent and ambition in common,” the young entrepreneur tells Clash. “And as cringe as it sounds, they are all mega inspiring in their own individual way. They’ve all achieved so much and it’s nice to celebrate that.”
Lending itself to the ‘über 21st century’ tag (social media is a key component of the company), the new collection possesses not only aesthetic prowess, but digital credentials too: each bangle comes equipped with a one off URL code, from which fans can view a personal ‘how to’ style message or ultimate summer playlist, courtesy of said influencers.
“I really wanted to have an experience with the product,” offers Amber. “For you to be able to feel you’re personally interacting with the girls involved, so each URL links to a blog or video made by them.”
“Creating a charm bracelet is also the most personal way to express yourself through jewellery,” she continues, echoing sentiments similar to Jiwinaia’s Marisa Jiwi Sok, “so it’s an intimate reflection of each girl’s style and personality.”
For her part, SHOWstudio editor Lou Stoppard has spelt out ‘Feminist’ with charms, while actress Tamsin Egerton has adopted a plethora of spiritual symbols.
Get it from Sunday.
