Mercedes-AMG and sacai Deliver A Progressive, Performance-Driven Collaboration

sacai's hybrid design aesthetic informed by the legacy of Mercedes AMG.

Mercedes-Benz presents its latest fashion collaboration with Tokyo-based designer sacai. Rooted in the heritage of the German automotive brand, the capsule marks sacai’s first foray into the luxury vehicle market with ready-to-wear and accessories. Alongside the collection, the two brands have also collaborated on a bespoke wrap for the brand-new Mercedes-AMG GT.

Inspired by Mercedes-AMG’s first-ever racing car, the iconic Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 6.8 AMA, also known as the ‘Red Pig’, the collection celebrates the car’s unlikely success. An exercise in grandeur and abundance, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class was a surprise on the track as a full-size luxury sedan when it debuted in 1971. After a nail-biting race, the Red Pig triumphantly took home the second-place prize and made its mark as an underdog on the track.

The bold, sleek design of the car is mirrored in a collection that not only celebrates the legacy of Mercedes, but the hybrid aesthetic of sacai. Bold, effectual badges appear throughout the collection on t-shirts, jumpsuits and tote bags.

Sacai is a Japanese brand founded by Chitose Abe in 1999. Her hybrid aesthetic focuses on re-evaluating typical silhouettes and using contrasting textures to play with 3D design, incorporating sportswear and couture techniques.

“AMG and sacai sit at the intersection of luxury and performance in their respective fields, and we are thrilled to see the collaboration come to life in a way that feels authentic to both brands’ DNA: innovative, disruptive and unique,”  says Michael Schiebe, Mercedes-AMG CEO. “Our customers are connoisseurs, and the creation of bold brand experiences and one-of-a-kind luxury products, such as sacai x AMG, is at the heart of our brand.’’
