The brand’s marketing director describes it as “a truly forward thinking collection,” which given the presumed bias, doesn’t exactly equate genuine credentials. One glance at the new collaboration from Mackintosh however, and Clash is smitten.
Partnering Japanese label Hyke (a one time adidas hook up, fact fans), the new capsule line is comprised of 12 pieces, with three variations (denim, python, plain black) of four different styles: each is a play on Mackintosh originals, here taking on the concept of ‘Heritage and ‘Evolution’.
The collection marks the second of three collaborative seasons between the luxe British house and the husband and wife duo. While AW14 saw Hideaki Yoshihara and Yukiko Ode’s present an all brown affair, the marriage today of new shades, patterns and models further explores the label’s innovative aesthetic.
Similarly however, there is a nod to late 90’s/early 00’s minimalism, with the longline button up shape particularly, referencing such clean silhouettes; likewise the button up neck shape will provide a proper TBT moment for anyone who indulged in the biker jacket trend of 2001.
The latter aside, the collection embodies a certain modernity visited elsewhere by the likes of Marques ‘ Almeida and Christopher Kane.
