Loewe Celebrates British Ceramicist William De Morgan With A New Seasonal Capsule

Animalistic arts and crafts...

This season, Loewe celebrates the life and work of British ceramicist William De Morgan with a new capsule collection that references the artist’s signature animal illustrations in a series of ready-to-wear pieces across men’s and womenswear.

Yearly winter capsules at Loewe in celebration of British craft heritage have become a tradition; honouring pioneers of the movement who helped to shape Jonathan Anderson’s vision of the Spanish fashion house. The De Morgan collection follows on from last year’s tailored capsule celebrating the work and botanicals of Charles Rennie Mackintosh.

“Each year we have tackled different Arts and Crafts heroes of mine,’ says Jonathan Anderson. “For me it was a very natural process to do William De Morgan, he was a big collaborator in the Arts and Crafts movement and a true fantasist in that moment.”

De Morgan, an English potter, tile designer and novelist became renowned for his ceramics depicting fantastical creatures and floral arabesques. His designs and illustrations have been enlarged and embroidered onto coats, bags, scarves and knitwear throughout the capsule. Standout pieces include a black Loewe jacket with a crimson dodo painted on the back, a peacock-print trench coat, available in indigo, cerulean and green and a soft calfskin Puzzle featuring De Morgan’s illustrations of peacocks and yellow feathers.

The Loewe De Morgan capsule collection is available from November 14th, visit loewe.com
