Levi’s has partnered with Kenzo for an AW23 denim capsule that seamlessly blends traditional Eastern and Western design elements for a meticulously crafted collection of experimental denim pieces with cowboy influences.
This collection marks the first time that Kenzo has collaborated with Levi’s, but Kenzo’s creative director NIGO is no stranger to the American denim giant. NIGO partnered with Levi’s for a Human Made capsule back in 2022 and joined in on the 501 150th anniversary celebrations under his own name. This capsule through Kenzo however, is his most expansive to date. Consisting of around 20 pieces, Kenzo x Levi’s features a full range of carefully crafted denim garments and accessories, primarily made from Kaihara Japanese denim. The clothing spans across menswear and womenswear and features plenty of tailoring options, custom 501 jeans and embroidered shirts that deliver the ultimate cowboy aesthetic.
For this collaboration, Kenzo and Levi’s enlisted Japanese filmmaker Umi Ishara and Mongolian photographer Ryu Ika to build the campaign. The collection, primarily set in dark indigo denim washes, is captured outside at night, bringing a spookier feel to the collection as we enter into the winter months. The campaign features a diverse cast that includes Abas Abdirazaq, Hayato, Masato Eun, Peipei, Sen Ping and Shun.
