BAFTA-nominated costume designer Julian Day created over 80 looks for the character of Elton John in Rocketman, the showstopping Dexter Fletcher directed musical about the musician’s life. With Elton John serving as executive producer and consulting on looks, Day enlisted Swarovski as Official Crystal Partners of the film to help recreate his flamboyant wardrobe.
The only look to be replicated from real life is Elton’s famous Dodgers costume from his two sell-out performances at Dodgers Stadium in 1975. The iconic bedazzled baseball kit has been reimagined with 140,000 Swarovski crystals replacing sequins from the original.
A total of 1 million crystals were used throughout the film, aside from bespoke transfers and patches, the Devil costume, Yellow Brick Road and Elizabeth looks were also embellished in thousands of crystals.
