Joseph Turvey – LC:M Preview

You'll find Drake and TLC on his stereo.

With London Collections: Men just around the corner, we asked ten designers six burning questions (in our minds at least), and asked for a cheeky snap from their studio too. To our surprise-and great pleasure-they agreed.

Joseph Turvey stole the show at Fashion East’s Installations last season, with the help of some very cute, very furry friends. For SS14 he’s swapped Dalmatians for monkeys (sort of).

Why do you do what you do?
I love it.

What’s your main inspiration for Spring Summer 14?
I started to look into the history of the first female racing car drivers and discovered the Flock family. Ethel Flock Mobley was one of the first female NASCAR drivers to ever compete against all male drivers. Her brother was famous for driving with a monkey named ‘Jocko Flocko’ as his co-driver… until they had an argument and lost a race. This has formed the prints, fabrics and shapes for SS14.

Which piece from SS13/AW13 have you found yourself wearing the most?
I love the green lace bomber from SS13 and I always wear my Dalmatian hoodie from AW13.

What track is the most overplayed in your studio right now?
Drake ‘Girls love Beyonce’ and TLC ‘No Scrubs’.

Which other designers work are you most interested to see at LC:M and why?
I always love to see what Baartmans and Siegel are doing. They have a great eye for modern tailoring and fabrication. Domingo Rodriguez knitwear is always amazing too.

Who would you most like to see wearing your clothes?
Solange. Her music and style is amazing.

Joe presents on Tuesday 18th June from 10:30.
