You read right: House of Vans is heading north. Following the success of the brand’s UK debut last summer – with subsequent in-house exhibitions from Louise Gray, gigs from Julian Casablancas and parties by the likes of Eley Kishimoto – Manchester is getting its own House Of experience for one weekend only.
Arriving at the Great Northern Warehouse (Deansgate) next Friday, 2nd October, House of Vans Manchester will raise a glass in honour of the classic Sk8-Hi, via the medium, naturally, of music, skateboarding and extended culture.
The former is provided across Friday and Saturday by 8 Gold Rings ft. Tyler Davey, Shadow Child, Maribou State and several as yet unannounced acts, while an art exhibition takes care of the latter: boasting works by tattoo artist Jemma Jones, illustrator Jake B and street artist Krek, the exhibit has been curated in partnership with Size?.
Elsewhere a handful of one-off workshops will take place, plus printing classes – assisted by the three ambassadors – allowing fans to make their own mark (later to be collated and compiled into a special zine), plus a series of skate schools set in a specially curated area from Manchester skate mecca Black Sheep Store; pro demonstrations will happen on a curiously defined custom built obstacle, inspired by the city.
Finally, south coast gal Jessica Piper a.k.a. Man Up Girl! will be making the trip, customising tees for creative would-be’s… And it’s all for the on point price of free.
