It’s just one week ‘til the crowds gather at Somerset House and London Fashion Week Spring Summer 14 kicks off. With this in mind Clash decided to focus our attentions on the art world, naturally. Hence Chanel, Bailey and Frieze each make an appearance in our exhibition semi-special.

Yesterday saw the launch of ‘Coco Chanel: A New Portrait By Marion Pike’ at the Fashion Space Gallery at London College of Fashion behind Oxford Circus. On until 15th November, the exhibit houses paintings, sketches and photographs of the late designer from 1967-1971.
Amongst the portraits, images of Pike painting and Chanel posing with friends are featured, providing a real insight into the worlds of the two women and their friendship.

Alexander McQueen has been announced as the Associate Sponsor for the 11th edition of Frieze London, the annual contemporary art fair.
The association marks the first of its kind for McQueen, as the label’s CEO remarks, “Frieze brings together the most exciting galleries from around the globe and Alexander McQueen supports and shares their vision in making contemporary art more accessible and engaging for the public.”
The fair takes place in Regents Park from 17th October through to the 20th. Gallery owner Sadie Coles is to curate a number of contemporary art presentations to run in McQueen stores throughout Frieze.

And finally, the National Portrait Gallery will open ‘Bailey’s Stardust’ in February 2014. Exhibiting over 250 portraits by David Bailey – some making their public debut – the show will be one of the Gallery’s largest ever photography exhibitions.
Each chosen by the photographer himself, ‘Bailey’s Stardust’ will see photos from today merge with those from over forty years ago, some high profile but others less so; all presented with the notion that ‘we are all made from, and return to, ‘stardust’.
A book of the same name will accompany the exhibition, featuring an essay by the critic Tim Marlow.
