Fashion Round Up: 02/08

Ice cream vans, pop-up shops and lawsuits.

As we enter August – and scream in horror at the fact there remains just four further months of 2013 – our attention is drawn to a new way of shopping. With a pop-up from two Fashion East alumni sure to be the go-to store of the weekend, Henry Holland’s label takes his show on the road. Also on the agenda, Rihanna’s case against Topshop.

Kicking off the month’s first Fashion Round Up, Jonathan Saunders and Roksanda Ilincic have set up shop in Hackney. Each with a studio in east London and both former pupils at the school of Fashion East, the joint venture makes a whole heap of sense and has, understandably, excited the fashion crowd.

Opened on Wednesay and until Sunday (4th August), the space at 99 Morning Lane, E9 6Nd, will have a selection of pieces available for discounts of between 50 and 70%.

Going one step further than a shop, House of Holland has recently gained an ice cream van. In anticipation of a forthcoming permanent space – and to co-inside with the brand’s made-over ecommerce site – ‘Mr Quiffy’ will be doing the rounds across London and Manchester for the next month.

Selling a selection of exclusive tees, sunnies and phone cases, each member of the HOH team will do a day ‘in-store’. Beginning today in Covent Garden Piazza, Carnaby Street is lined up for the 8th-10th, Monmouth Street from the 15th-17th and Spitalfields between the 29th and 30th. The van will then visit Manchester in September (the designer’s birthplace), before doing a spin at London Fashion Week.

Lastly, on Wednesday Rihanna won a legal fight against Topshop, suing Arcadia – which owns the brand – over a top produced with her image on. The tee features a photograph taken during a video shoot in 2011, and Rihanna claimed the retailer didn’t have permission to use it.

The high street brand was reportedly ‘surprised, disappointed and perplexed’ by the ruling, which saw Rihanna sue the parent company for $5 million. ‘There was no intention to create an appearance of an endorsement or promotion’ the chain claimed.
