Chloé Debuts the Penelope Bag

Inspired by the Homeric queen…

Pioneer of the It-bag, Chloé, has unveiled its offering for SS23: the Penelope. Chic, contemporary, and versatile, the French heritage brand’s latest style is set to become the covetable investment piece of the season. Inspired by the qualities of Penelope from Homer’s Odyssey, the line fuses the strong-minded character with Chloé’s DNA for a refined but rounded design.

The Penelope is available in a menage of silhouettes, materials, and hues, all tied together with a distinctive metal coin closure. Chloé wrote the handbook on handbag hardware (think back to 2004’s Paddington bag), so it’s no surprise the Penelope’s metal details take centre stage. This season, the Maison looked to their jewellery archives to design the gold-tone coin closure.

Distinguished by a braided leather trim, the Penelope shoulder bag is available in three roomy sizes. Opt for the coloured leather for everyday versatility or choose the multicolour variation for oversized leather tassels and a rainbow of crocheted wool. If you’re looking for a day-to-evening accessory, this style’s practically sized compartments and elevated details could make it the perfect match.

Unlike the shoulder bag, the Penelope flap bag offers a structured, sleek silhouette. The clean lines and box leather lends a strong, sophisticated aesthetic. Meanwhile, the Penelope clutch bag is crafted from Nappa leather, giving the style a supple, feminine shape. Look out for the metallic leather colourway to make a statement.

The Penelope line is available in-store or online, starting at £1890.
