Burberry Extends Its Love Letter To The Great British Outdoors With A New Campaign

Daniel Lee delves further into the cosy side of British fashion for Winter 2024.

In February of this year, Burberry closed out London Fashion Week with a definitively British show. Models traversed the runway to the sounds of Amy Winehouse and were engulfed by the Ivy fragrance by Perfumer H. “I wanted it to feel like a forest at night,” said Daniel Lee at the time. “A feeling of outdoorsy elegance, of comfort and warmth.”

This week Burberry followed up the monumental show with an earthy and romantic Winter 2024 campaign. Inspired by the landscapes and people of the UK and Ireland, the luxury British house enlisted friend and frequent collaborator Tyrone Lebon to capture the collection for a portrait series in the Lake District.

“We were inspired by the characters who wear Burberry and the outdoors and landscapes that are part of the brand’s heritage. The Lake District feels familiar, and it has a sense of adventure.” said Daniel Lee, Chief Creative Officer at Burberry.

The colour palette is warm and earthy, set in deep browns and greens, classic beiges and custard creams. Notably, the sparkling forest green strapless dress worn by Naomi Campbell on the runway appears in a warmly soft yellow shade and paired with weatherproof brown Stomp boots. One of the many examples of Lee’s Burberry expression that are rooted firmly in functionality and fine British craftsmanship as he continues to explore the brand’s archives and mills of Lochcarron and Donegal. The campaign styling echoes the show with textural juxtapositions and the layering of thick, chunky wool and tall silhouettes.

With the return to classic Burberry, Lee remains focused on trench coats, which appear in moleskine, wool and leather. Duffle coats and field jackets are present throughout, in the same tonal and earthy colour palette. A softer approach to Savile Row tailoring presents relaxed double-breasted suits, and cowl neck sweaters evoke cosiness and warmth alongside kilts made from Burberry Check wool. The Knight bag is prominent wherever present, slung cross-body or over the shoulder the slouchy bag is a key piece for the season.
