An Exclusive Inside Look At A Magazine Curated By Kim Jones

V is for Vinyls and Virgil Abloh...

A Magazine Curated By Kim Jones is an encyclopaedic insight into the curious mind of the Dior Menswear creative director. From A (Naomi Campbell’s Africa) to Z (Amanda Lear’s ‘the zero you will get if you don’t learn my alphabet’); a total of 26 artist ‘letter’ pages featuring the works of friends and collaborators make up a sizeable chunk the 248-page magazine.

“This magazine is the A — Z of all the things I love,” Kim states in the introduction of the magazine. “My work, my friends, my inspirations, my travels. It documents my work from graduation to Dior and includes my collections of art and clothing that I’ve collected over the years.”

Dior house milliner Stephen Jones and Louis Vuitton’s menswear Artistic Director, Virgil Abloh, are among the selected contributors. Kim Jones revisits old friends as he enlists the talents of artists Hajime Sorayama, Raymond Pettibon and Kaws. The latter who submitted a portrait of Kate Moss cuddling one of his signature plus toys and surrounded by Kaws bees – first designed by the artist for Jones’ first Dior men’s show in June of last year.

Each letter is followed by an adjoining subject matter, ranging from essays and archive image portfolios to interviews, illustrations and poetry. Below, Jones has given us exclusive access to his v-card (for vinyls), with introductory artwork designed by Virgil Abloh. A series of Jones' fabulous and famous friends have contributed playlists to the project – from Elton John and Stevie Wonder (my favourite) to Robert Pattinson and Bobby Gilespie – we are offered playlists of classic beats from The Beatles, Frank Ocean, Marvin Gate and Aretha Franklin to name a few…
