Aleali May Designs Colourful, Corduroy Wallabees for Clarks Originals

California cool.

Clarks Originals has collaborated with acclaimed Los Angeles stylist and fashion designer Aleai May for a colourful spring-summer launch.

May founded her own brand, Mayde, in late 2022, drawing inspiration from Los Angeles streetwear for her unisex designs. This partnership with Clarks sees May styling new iterations of the Wallabee boot on a stormy California beach. For the campaign, May selected a group of LA creatives who have inspired her.

First created by Lance Clark in 1968, the Wallabee boot is the definitive shoe of the Clarks Originals brand, favoured for its comfortable moccasin construction and natural crepe soles. For this collaboration, Aleai May reinterpreted the iconic shoe with new colourways to honour her home state, referencing the sea, sand and sunsets along the Pacific Coast. The Clarks Originals x Mayde Wallabee maintains the same clean lines as the original, but has been designed in corduroy, “a staple California fabric”, Aleai May says.

“Wallabees have always been a statement within hip-hop fashion, and one of the many reasons why I love them,” May continues. “I decided to add an LA spin to the Wallabees to mark a celebratory moment for my first line, MAYDE. For this campaign, I carefully chose individuals like myself who are doing big things for my community and who inspire me to keep going!”
