Debuting a bespoke rainbow Polo Pony...
J Tillman (Joshua Tillman) tasted fame for the first time as a member of Fleet Foxes, the Seattle folk band who experienced a wonderfully successful 2008. But he was a solo artist in his own right before joining the band, and continues to release material under his own name. Tillman began releasing records in 2004, and soon attracted comparisons to the likes of Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, Elliott Smith and even Nick Drake. Gentle, blues-recalling numbers are his calling cards, and with arrangements always slight, Tillman allows room aplenty for his wonderfully disconsolate voice. 'Vacilando Territory Blues' is Tillman's sixth album and first for Bella Union, who also released the Fleet Foxes album in the UK. The record features fellow FF members Casey Wescott and Christian Wargo, alongside collaborators old and new. The record's Tillman's most collaborative yet, setting a precedent for future releases. But one thing it retains is that haunting voice - hidden in the FF mix but here loud and proud.
