Win Rare Squarepusher Artwork

Artwork of 'Just A Souvenir' album

If the much-mocked county of Essex ever plans to update its image, perhaps it should erect a statue of its most intriguing musical progeny: Squarepusher.

Chelmsford-born Tom Jenkinson released his eleventh album, ‘Just A Souvenir’, in October, to acclaim from some interesting quarters. Faith No More’s Mike Patton described it as “deeply infatuating” and “leading the listener into wonderful, uncharted lands.” Not Chelmsford, then.

Jenkinson has always had an eye on the visuals too, and is sharing his latest bit of cutting-edge eye candy with a lucky Clash reader. We’ve acquired a limited edition 12” square print of the ‘Just A Souvenir’ cover, which is based on a specially-commissioned structure by designer Sam Blunden, and is very nice indeed.

Squarepusher’s real name is…?

If you fancy buying a proper hard copy of the original album, incidentally, you can now do so via the awardwinning Bleep store. Previously a digital-only concern, it’s now joining forces with its more physical sister shop, Warpmart, and will be flogging vinyl, CDs, T-shirts, tickets and the like too. There’s also a funky new magazine and music player – check www.bleep.com to give it a whirl.

With a bit of luck there may even be a few Squarepusher tickets left, but you’d better be quick. Jenkinson will be hitting the road in early December, his first tour for two years, with a live drummer also in tow – a rare chance to see a proper genius at work.
