Deep, dark and mysterious 'Maxinquaye' was a line in the sand for British electronic music.

A former member of Massive Attack, Tricky was always too independent to be chained to a group setting. Striking out on his own the producer began crafting a dense mixture of dub, hip hop and electronica.

A series of white labels led to breathless critics hailing him as a stunningly original new talent. Snapped up by Island Tricky began forming the basis of his skeletal debut album 'Maxinquaye'.
