Watch: Yussef Kamaal Salutes Idris Muhammad

An incredible jazz performance...

UK-based jazz is in its healthiest form for a long time. A crop of young musicians are breathing new life into the art form, experimenting with the blueprint laid during bygone eras. The community includes but isn’t limited to the likes of The Comet Is Coming, Sons Of Kemet, the Theon Cross Trio, Ezra Collective, Moses Boyd, United Vibrations and Ruby Rushton to name a few — plus Yussef Dayes and Kamaal Williams (otherwise known as Yussef Kamaal), who we focus on here.

Originally ushered in via a Boiler Room special last year, they’re leading the vanguard with an otherworldly approach. A stellar performance at the Worldwide Awards and a headline offering at Ronnie Scott’s last year have seen their admirers grow in number.

Come April 28th, the pair are joined by an all-star troupe at the Church Of Sound to pay homage to jazz icon, Idris Muhammad; and specifically his magnum opus, 'Power Of Soul' project. Joining them are: Rocco Paladino (D’Angelo’s bassist), saxophonist Nubya Garcia, Nick Walters on trumpet (Riot Jazz/Ruby Rushton), percussionist Crispin Spry (Havana Cultura), and Mansur Brown, a prodigal young guitarist who has been tearing up Ronnie Scott’s for the last few months.

This is a unique opportunity to see some of the leading lights of one of London’s most vibrant scenes. All of this provided by Total Refreshment Centre, which is increasingly becoming the epicentre of everything jazz and soul-influenced in the English capital. It’s going to be very special — purchase your tickets here while you can.
