Billy Bragg has nothing to prove.
Responsible for some of the most vital work of his generation, the songwriter has (literally) done his time on the picket lines. Continuing to refine his sound, the bard of Barking is refusing to rest on his past reputation - carving out new material from each fresh experience life has to offer.
Returning with a new album, Billy Bragg is currently looking more towards the personal than the political. Gathering together his new material, the English songwriter flew out to South Pasadena to work with long time friend Joe Henry in his basement studio.
Recording alongside a varied cast of guest musicians, the results are a fusion of soul, country and blues filtered through a uniquely English lens. As Billy Bragg himself recently said: “In 2011, I took a long, hard look at who I am and what I do. This album is the result.”
Due to be released on March 18th, ClashMusic has managed to grab a preview of 'Tooth & Nail'. This new video matches music from the album with intimate interview footage which features the legendary songwriter reflecting on the recording process.
An intriguing piece of footage, you can watch it now.
