Leeds is often perceived as being totemic of the rough, tough (post) Industrial North.
Yet the city has a mirror image, an alter ego. A huge university town, Leeds has spawned a dense, sprawling network of artists, musicians and mavericks, expanding outwards in a DIY nervous system across the city.
It's here that you can find Post War Glamour Girls. As ferocious as The Birthday Party yet with a keen Northern wit, the band's fusion of influences, their cut 'n' paste take on pop culture could only have come from the feverish atmosphere of Leeds music scene.
Debut seven inch 'Ode To Harry Dean/ Spitting Pearls' was followed by rightly celebrated EP 'Tragic loss; he had such a lovely house'. Indebted to that chaotic period when punk met funk and the charts opened up, Post War Glamour Girls have an energy, an intelligence which marks them out.
New release 'Light Bulb / The Cripples' arrives on October 21st as a pay-what-you-like-download. The A-side has received the video treatment, with Dundee based artist Ivan Smith stepping in to provide animation.
Dark yet striking, stark yet beautiful, the visuals fuse the light / dark nature of Post War Glamour Girls to some vivid animation.
Watch it now.
