Premiere: Pleasure House – ‘Calm’

The first signal from new EP 'Sentient'...

Pleasure House are part of a wave of new music emanating from Birmingham, a closeknit group of bands and songwriters eager to try something new.

Supporting everyone from Black Honey to Sundara Karma and Fickle Friends, Pleasure House have taken their sound out on the road.

Rippling with real energy, the group took this live set into the studio recently to focus on their new release, a five track EP named 'Sentient'.

It's the sound of a band coming into their own, with Pleasure House fusing ear-worm hooks alongside ferocious fuzzed out effects.

Lead cut 'Calm' is a mighty return, the sound of someone desperately looking for light amid an increasingly dark situation.

Singer Alex Heffernan explains: "I'd been feeling increasingly disaffected, like many others' guilty of scrolling through torrents of hateful rhetoric and petty politics that add to the fragile disparity within our society, creating a war amongst ourselves."

"I wrote 'Calm' as a protest song against this. It’s what I feel myself screaming at my screen, constantly exposed to a carefully calculated war on peace, feeling angry and afraid and helpless all at the same time. I wanted to write a song with a message of hope. A message of positivity and resistance that would resonate with everyone who feels disaffected too, because it feels like there’s conscious change in the air, and we should never allow fear to forget who our real enemy is."
