South America is a natural home for psychedelia.
After all, amazon tribes would traditionally imbibe hallucinogens as a means of reaching the gods, of expanding their consciousness towards the stars.
Based in Santiago, Follakzoid specialise in drone heavy pieces of Krautrock inspired psych, all delivered with a rare intensity. New album 'Föllakzoid II' is out now via Sacred Bones, and it's a dark, distorted vision of guitar bedlam.
Each track snakes along, gradually evolving from a mist of lysergic babylon. Mexican director Ion Rakhmatulina steps in to produce the visuals for 'Rio', shooting footage of Chile's recent summer forest fires.
Band leader Domingo Garcia Huidobro explains: "We believe that it sort of resembles a dream like opening of the gates of hell, and shows rivers of fire. The song is called 'Rio' which means 'river' in Spanish."
Watch it now.
