There's an emotional side to Daniel James which can't be shrugged off.
In the hands of some songwriters, it could be rendered as mawkish, cliched - yet in part to James' sincerity, his work comes across as direct, engrossing, involving.
New single 'The Bridge' will be released on April 21st, with Grey Sky Records supporting the rising artist. Strident, folk-infused songcraft, there's a pop edge, an accessibility to Daniel James which sets him apart.
Yet this isn't to apply that his work is slight, slender in any way. Sparked into writing his own material by the death of his grandmother, each track from Daniel James has an authenticity which can't be faked.
The video for 'The Bridge' seems to prove this. At times close to tears, the camera pans in on Daniel James as the song flutters around him.
Watch it first on Clash.
