Premiere: Dan Wilson – A Song Can Be About Anything

Semisonic songwriter returns...

Dan Wilson is, in many ways, a songwriter's songwriter.

As the lead behind Semisonic, Wilson notched up a handful of infuriatingly catchy hit singles – 'Closing Time' and 'Secret Smile' amongst them – before releasing the chart-slaying album 'Feeling Strangely Fine'.

Deciding to work behind the scenes, Dan Wilson was invited to collaborate with a number of well known artists desperate for his golden touch.

Adele asked the songwriter to come into the studio during sessions for '21', resulting in her career-making track 'Someone Like You'.

Returning to his solo work, Dan Wilson used PledgeMusic to allow fans to get involved every step of the way. The results are gathered on 'Love Without Fear' an album which is steeped in pop classicism.

"I really wanted to make a record that felt singer-songwriter in its DNA" Dan Wilson explains. "I like things that are, basically, folk music with that Americana twang, but I’m too influenced by Broadway or urban pop sounds from the 60s to make a proper country-sounding record. With this album, I wanted to make something that sits at the intersection between twangy Americana and The Beatles."

Out on April 14th, 'Love Without Fear' will be accompanied by a one off London show that same month. Ahead of this, Clash is able to premiere a new video from the songwriter.

'A Song Can be About Anything' finds Wilson reflecting on his art in a uniquely personal way – check it out now.

'Love Without Fear' will be released on April 14th. Catch Dan Wilson at London's St. Pancras Church on April 23rd.
