Premiere: Baxter Dury – ‘Palm Trees’

A homage to 'The Swimmer'

Renowned for his songwriting and stage presence, Baxter Dury is able to fuse the two in his musical persona.

Upcoming album 'It's A Pleasure' drops on October 20th, another batch of inimitable songwriting which could only come from Baxter Dury.

Ahead of this, new single 'Palm Trees' is whetting fans' appetites. Underneath the jaunty songwriter and Dury's vocal idiosyncrasies, lies a song which ripples with unsettling emotional currents.

Clash is able to premiere the Roger Sargent directed video for 'Palm Trees'. Shot in the extreme heat of south Spain, the clip is seemingly "a subtle homage" to the "strange and uncomfortable" 1968 film The Swimmer starring Burt Lancaster.

Baxter Dury explains: "it is an attempt at emulating art house euro films of the period. Our film is a cinematic nod to some of the unintentional psychedelia the swimmer uses to establish its core theme of mental instability."
