An inspirational return?

Troubled times for M.I.A.

The dis-appointing reaction to third album 'MAYA' was followed by a critical backlash, with some hacks clearly scenting blood. Bruised, the singer seemed to retreat from the spotlight, shuffling between labels and releasing the odd mixtape.

Now, though, she's back. New track 'Bring The Noize' premiered on Zane Lowe's Radio 1 show last week, and displayed a re-invigorated, re-energised performer.

M.I.A. was angry, her rhymes crisp while the production - courtesy of Switch and Surkin - is loud, proud and in your face. The video for the track just went live, and it's a confrontational, heavily stylised return.

At times echoing the London riots, M.I.A. is clearly intent on re-claiming her position as a voice of dissent.

Watch it now.
