Joel Compass - Back To Me

Scary new clip...

The space between pop music and bass culture is collapsing.

Katy B is a bona fide chart star, while the premiere of Jessie Ware's new single 'Imagine It Was Us' - complete with Julio Bashmore production - took the web by storm.

Black Butter sit at the heart of this movement. Existing in the flux between the underground and the mainstream, the label has gathered a reputation for capturing new talent on the rise, for spotting fresh ideas and assisting their evolution.

Joel Compass is their latest signing. Just 19 years old, the songwriter hails from Brixton and is blessed with a voice that is both supple and engrossing.

Debut EP 'Astronaut' matches bass saturation to a pop feel, with a nod towards the splintered R&B of The Weeknd in the process. New cut 'Back To Me' is lush, beautiful and manages to expose the Brixton artist's potential in a thrilling, exciting manner.

Ian Schwartz and Cooper Roberts have directed the accompanying clip, which seems to find menace in the bass shapes of 'Back To Me'. Following a young child and his father, the story is chopped up and contains a shock ending.

Watch it now.
