Cheri MacNeil has always been inspired by a rare sense of ambition.
The South African artist has a poetic touch, a lyrical flair which marks her out. Never afraid to tackle The Big Topics, MacNeil turned her pen on her homeland last year.
Focussing on the recent history of South Africa, 'Rivonia' found Dear Reader entering yet more complex, more personal territory.
Released to widespread acclaim, the album was accompanied by a number of moving shows. Potsdam-based radio Station Radio Eins offered Cheri MacNeil the chance to record an entire concert with the company of a symphony orchestra.
The results are quite special. Using the orchestra to amplify the emotional caverns of her songwriting, the entire set is set to gain an official release. Working with the Deutsches Filmorchester Babelsberg / German Film Orchestra, 'We Followed Every Sound' is set to be released on December 9th via City Slang.
Ahead of this, Clash is able to premiere a live clip from the album. 'Back From The Dead' is stirring, tightly wrought stuff, with Cheri MacNeil surrounded by a wild, ragged forest of sound.
Watch it now.
