Tarka Cordell had music in his blood.
The son of renowned producer Denny Cordell, the aspiring songwriter was always surrounded by creativity. Falling in love with the sounds of Louisiana, Tarka Cordell set about bringing the sounds of the swamp to London.
Achieving cult fame amongst his fellow musicians, Cordell's sound was too raw, too outwith mainstream pop to ever really break through. Sadly passing away in 2008, he left behind him a small, compact and often inspiring discography.
A group of Cordell's friends and admirers have banded together to focus on a tribute album, aimed at raising awareness of his work. 'Tarka & Friends' is out now, but first a cover of 'Lovely New York' will be made available as a single.
Evan Dando has stepped in to honour the songwriter's work, responding with a faithful, sensitive rendering. Accompanied by little more than his acoustic guitar, you can watch the video for 'Lovely New York' now.
