Chastity – ‘Saliva’

"It's two boys kissing..."

Sometimes the simplest of acts can be the most striking.

Canadian punks Chastity seem to grasp this. The video for their feral new belter 'Saliva' opens with two boys kissing in front of a screen.

Appalling images from current events flicker in the background, with the clip clearly asking why issues such as homophobia exist when the world is plagued by such huge and urgently pressing problems.

It's a simple yet deeply affecting video. First airing at Toronto exhibition space Videofag, it was described thus: "The song, accompanied by video, is about conscientiousness, it's a staring contest with ignorance and it isn't about to blink. It's discomfort for those given no reason to feel uncomfortable in the first place. It hopes to be a getting out of the way of inherited or old ignorance. Ambitious, it hopes to be an opportunity for compassion, for individual and social progress and awakening. It's two boys kissing."
