Track Of The Day 14/10 – Sarah Williams White

'Hum'

The tiny corner of Lewisham is rapidly becoming one of London's most creatively fertile areas.

Sarah Williams White is part of a coterie of musicians who are doing rather curious things to what could loosely be termed soul music. Future-facing, the artist is one to file alongside the likes of Mo Kolours, Henry Wu and Paul White – who happens to also be her brother.

Snapped up by First Word Records, Sarah Williams White will release new single 'Hum' on November 6th. Available both digitally and on seven inch vinyl, it's a wonderfully atmospheric piece of music, the sparse percussion blended against a neat bass-line and supple layers of sound.

The vocal, though, seems to inhabit its own world – breathy, intense and jazz-tinged, it displays effortless control to ram home its emotional message.
