The Damned formed in the first wave of UK punk, becoming the first punk band to release a single, then an album, and then tour the US. Beginning as a raucous Stooges influenced act, The Damned began to incorporate theatrical elements, eventually mutating into a goth band. The group split in 1988 before reforming in 1993. They are still active.
