Sandy Denny Box Set Details

More details confirmed

More details of the forthcoming Sandy Denny box set have been confirmed, including unreleased tracks.

Sandy Denny was a real original. Part folk performer and part flower child, the singer epitomised a strong new feminine archetype with her ballsy approach and simply stunning voice.

Rightly acclaimed for her work with Fairport Convention, Sandy Denny’s solo career has relatively unexplored. While contemporaries such as Nick Drake soundtrack car adverts, Denny’s music lies almost neglected.

A new 19 track box set could change that. ‘Sandy Denny’ includes almost everything the singer recorded, from her earliest demos to the final sketches she recorded at home before her tragically early death.

Due to be released on November 22nd, the box set includes everything Sandy Denny officially released. In addition to this, there are 8 further CDs of bonus material; unreleased songs, demos, unreleased BBC recordings, alternate takes, live recordings, acoustic versions, and rare radio interviews.

Spread across 19 CDs, highlights include three long lost songs destined for her celebrated early solo album ‘The North Star Grassman and The Ravens’.

The lengthy sleevenotes contain a number of very personal tributes, including the following from Bill Drummond: “Other generations may have had Ian Curtis or Kurt Cobain, but for me the voice of Sandy Denny is enough for my life time.”

Elsewhere, former Fairport Convention guitarist Richard Thompson explained: “Sandy was an original – she was carving an area of music that was really her own.”

A second edition will be made available from the Island 50 web store, limited to just 100 copies.

The new Sandy Denny box set is available from November 22nd.
