Remix: Death Grips Release Stems

'Ex-Military' thrown open

Death Grips are giving away the stems to their debut album ‘Ex-Military’ as part of a remix project.

Emerging online earlier this year, Death Grips’ mixtape ‘Ex-Military’ left a profound effect on anyone who heard it. The Californian group broke new ground, with their visceral production matched by an intense lyrical style.

‘Ex-Military’ at times borders on industrial music, with Death Grips managing to convey a genuinely uncomfortable sense of claustrophobia. Essentially focussing on the alienation felt by a former soldier adjusting to society, the Sacramento collective have hit a raw nerve just underneath the skin of the United States.

Due to the flurry of samples used in its construction, Death Grips opted to give ‘Ex-Military’ away for free. Reaching a far wider audience than they might ever had anticipated, the group are now inviting fans to produce their own remixes.

Announced via their Third Worlds hub, Death Grips are giving away the vocal and instrumental stems from ‘Ex-Military’. Producing the ‘Black Google’ video to introduce the project, it seems that anyone can get involved.
