Poly Styrene Diagnosed With Cancer

X Ray Spex singer and post-punk icon Poly Styrene has been diagnosed with cancer.

Returning with new material last year, Poly Styrene roared back into the music industry with a new album. Working with producer Youth, the post-punk icon proved that she still had some bite.

Set to release her new album ‘Generation Indigo’ on March 28th, the singer has been rocked by the news that she has cancer. Issuing a statement to fans, Poly Styrene vowed to battle on and release her album.

It comes as a huge shock to all those who know Poly Styrene and X-ray Spex that Poly has been diagnosed with cancer, she is currently undergoing various treatments in her battle with this illness.

She is devastated that she cannot commit to any live dates at this stage, but her album remains a very positive force in her current journey.

Poly has been tweeting about her illness and will continue to keep in touch with fans: “It’s been a bit of a battle fighting this cancer but hey ho I’m still alive, Luv Poly x”.

Poly Styrene led X Ray Spex to cult stardom, scoring the odd genuine hit along the way. Although they were only in existence for around 18 months the band had an enduring influence on the post-punk scene and beyond.

Alongside this, the singer owned a London market stall which became a hub for fans. Introducing some feminine charm to the punk image, Poly Styrene has influenced everyone from Courtney Love to Karen O.
