Pinch And Shackleton Working Together

New album in the pipeline

Pinch and Shackleton are working on new material, with a collaborative album in the works.

The term post-dubstep is, in actuality, pretty insulting. The soundsystem scene has always been open minded, ranging from the all out sub-bass assault of Coki to the introspection of Burial.

Two of the most forward thinking producers on the scene, Pinch and Shackleton are now apparently working together. Bristol’s Pinch runs Tectonic and released one of dubstep’s most potent anthems in the form of ‘Qawwali’.

Shackleton, meanwhile, is now based in Berlin where he focusses on material more akin to sound art. Tracks such as ‘Hamas Rule’ took bass music into unexplored territory, years before the term post-dubstep became common currency.

Now the pair are apparently working together. Speaking to Resident Advisor, Pinch broke the news: “I’ve also been working a lot with Shackleton, working on a project that hopefully we’ll finish up this year and will see light of day as an album of sorts. I’m also hoping to get stuck into a full length LP this year of my own to follow up on 2007s ‘Underwater Dancehall’.”

No news on a release date, but this would mark the second LP in twelve months from Shackleton – the producer recently completed a FabricLive mix bursting at the seams with unreleased material.

For Pinch, though, the schedule is packed with collaborative work. “Aside for the usual fare of running the labels and gigging on weekends, I’ve been busy with a bunch of collaborative production projects. Out soon is a 12-inch on Tectonic featuring one by myself and Loefah (my knackered dubplate crackling away in the mix here!), on the flip will be one I’ve done with UK funky producer Roska (though the track we made together is at the 140 BPM tempo of dubstep rather than funky). I also have an ongoing project with Distance under the alias of Deleted Scenes—expect to see some more 12-inches this year”.
